CHICAGO _ Joe Paterno has done it five times. Bear Bryant did it three times, as did Tom Osborne. Woody Hayes did it twice, Lou Holtz once.

Bobby Bowden desperately wants to do it.

Bowden never has finished a season with a ``0'' in the ``L'' column. His top-ranked Florida State Seminoles are perfect so far, but they put their 10-0 record on the line Saturday in Gainesville, Fla., against No. 3 Florida.

``You think I'm due after 46 years?'' said Bowden, who ranks fifth all time among major-college coaches with 302 career victories. ``There's no doubt about it. That's the big stat: Are you undefeated?''

Even Bowden's sons, Terry and Tommy, have produced perfect seasons at Auburn and Tulane, respectively.
