PORT Klang, which is expected to handle an all time high of 2.5 million TEUs (20-foot equivalent units) throughput target this year, must be resilient in order to sustain impressive growth into the next century, says Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ling Liong Sik.
"Now that it is close to reaching its 2.5 million target, Port Klang must learn to sustain the hard earned gains that it has made over the last ten months," the minister told Business Times.
Dr Ling said he is confident that Port Klang will be able to maintain its new height and grow further in realising its potential as a major transshipment centre in the region.
Among the factors which will help Port Klang grow further in the next millennium is the newly opened land bridge linking the port and Thailand.
