Union Planters Bank plans to focus on marketing its business lending and consumer investment products to former customers of Republic National Bank of Miami alter it completes that acquisition.

Adolfo Henriques, Union Planter's chairman and CEO for Florida, said his bank hopes to receive shareholder and regulatory approvals by July 1, adding: "I don't think you will see us expanding our franchise [with more mergers] through the end of this year."

Memphis-based Union Planters' long-anticipated purchase of Republic is its fifth in South Florida since January 1998, when it entered the state by buying Miami's Capital Bank.
