Three years of losses convince ORHS to quit its managed care business.

ORLANDO - Orlando Regional Healthcare System plans to scrap its cash-guzzling health maintenance organization.

Community Health Care Systems Inc. has lost $8.87 million since its inception three years ago.

Forty-five employees in the managed care division will lose their jobs, but the hospital system plans to absorb them "in another capacity," says spokesman Joe Brown.

As for the estimated 11,000 employees at ORHS who are members of the plan, Brown says, "We have several offerings in our employee health plan that they can convert to, including an HMO look-alike." The …
