Introduced by Dionex (1228 Titan Way, P.O. Box 3601, Sunnyvale CA 94086-3803; Tel: 408/737-0700, Fax: 408/730-9403) at Pittcon '99, the AAA-Direct amino acid analysis system detects amino acids directly without the need for pre- or post- column derivatization.
Derivatization is time-consuming, and when using pre-column derivatization, the effect of the sample matrix on the yield of the derivatization reaction must be accounted for. The AAA-Direct is compatible with commonly used hydrolysis procedures, including 6 M HCl, 4 M methanesulfonic acid (MSA), 4.2 M NaOH, and performic acid/6 M HCl.
