CHICAGO -- Seborrheic dermatitis, molluscum, scabies, herpes zoster, and Kaposi's sarcoma appear to be markers for HIV infection in young women, results of a major new National Institutes of Health-sponsored study show.
"I think if a young woman with any of these skin diagnoses comes in, she should probably be asked about HIV risk factors and considered for testing," Dr. Paradi Mirmirani said at the annual meeting of the Society for Investigative Dermatology.
She presented interim results of the ongoing Women's Interagency HIV Study (WIHS), a longitudinal cohort study that is the first large investigation into the natural history of HIV infection in women.…
