Bankruptcy definitions -- Chapter 7: Debtor sells assets in return for discharge of debts. Chapter 11: Debtor company reorganizes under court supervision. Involuntary bankruptcy: Three or more unsecured creditors owed $5,000 or more have petitioned the court to force the company into bankruptcy. The petitions are sometimes withdrawn by the creditors or dismissed by the court.
