ORACLE LAST WEEK touted additions to its Web-portal offerings, and trumpeted a far-reaching development and marketing deal with Hewlett- Packard.

Both moves are generally intended to solidify Oracle's position as an Internet-tools and Internet-platform provider.

Jumping deeper into a fast-crowding pool of Web-portal-creation offerings, the Redwood Shores, Calif., database giant updated its WebDB tool and FastForward Web Store products while at the same time introducing the FastForward DistributionRPM family this week to help companies manage content and build commerce sites.
