A Sacramento insurance operation specializing in coverage for contractors and artisans has sued a local competitor, alleging that a former employee used trade secrets to benefit his new employer.
In its suit filed Aug. 17 in Sacramento County Superior Court, HDR Insurance Managers LLC, which does business as HDR Insurance Services, sued Builders & Tradesmen's Insurance Services Inc. and the insurance program it sells, Best Choice Insurance Services Inc., in Roseville.
The suit also names Norbert Hohlbein, president of Builders & Tradesmen's and chief executive officer of Best Choice; and Grady Trowbridge, the employee who left the former business for the latter.
The lawsuit asks for' injunctive relief and seeks damages for alleged misappropriation of trade secrets, breach of fiduciary duty, interference with contract and prospective economic advantage, and unfair …
