DILI, East Timor, Sept 20 (Bernama-Kyodo) - The first combat members of a U.N.-authorized multinational peacekeeping force to be deployed in East Timor started arriving in Dili shortly after dawn today from Northern Australia.
Using six Hercules aircraft of the Royal Australian Air Force, a total of 2,500 U.N. troops are expected to land at Dili's Comoro Airport in 37 flights that may end later in the afternoon.
Australian military officials in Darwin said a total of 500 Australian troops belonging to infantry and special commando units arrived in the first wave of flights from Townsville air base in Queensland.
