Bank changes its name, opens new branch after 20 years in business

FORT WORTH - For 20 years. Mercantile Bank of Fort Worth has operated under the same name at the same location, an anomaly in today's banking world where mergers, acquisitions and multiple branches are the norm.

But now Mercantile, a small independently owned bank with one location at the southeast corner of Meacham Boulevard and Interstate 35W in North Fort Worth, will spread its wings.

Next month, the Fort Worth institution will change its name to Mercantile Bank Texas and open its first branch in Hurst. It has other expansion plans as well, which bank officers say they are not …
