In a makeshift "war room" on the mezzanine level of the Providence Biltmore, Lisa Hornbuckle is going full-speed-ahead.
Around her, telephones are ringing. Employment interviews are being conducted at a rapid pace. Something big is going on.
That something big is Providence Place. The $450 million mall is set to open in just over a month. Hornbuckle has landed a major role in the drama. She will manage Nordstrom, the mall's largest and most high profile tenant.
Since signing on to anchor the mall, Nordstrom has moved quickly. While other anchors will open in the coming months -- Nordstrom has never wavered from its promise to open Friday, Aug. 20. For weeks, the company has commandeered much of the mezzanine level of the downtown hotel. From this location, Hornbuckle and her colleagues put in 12 hour days.
Nordstrom's 100th store will occupy 206,000 square feet of Providence Place. It will employ 350 workers.
