Sep. 1 -- Competition is coming to the Salt Lake market for high-speed Internet access over telephone lines.
Jato Communications Corp., a Denver company backed by Lucent Technologies Inc., this month will begin offering a high-speed connection aimed at small- and mid-sized businesses.
The digital-subscriber-line, or DSL, service will compete with a similar service offered by US West.
Jato's DSL service allows data to be moved over a standard telephone line at speeds ranging from 144,000 bits to 1.5 million bits a second.
