Aug. 6 -- A Chicago-area education company will buy the California Culinary Academy Inc. for $31 million cash.
Career Education Corp. has signed a letter of intent to buy the Culinary Academy for $6.50 a share. The Culinary Academy has 850 students at its main campus in San Francisco and at its three College of Food locations in San Francisco, Salinas and San Diego.
Career Education Corp., based in Hoffman Estates, Ill., is one of the largest providers of private, for-profit postsecondary education in North America. It has 16,000 students at 25 campuses in 14 states and two Canadian provinces.
