NEW YORK The sudden resignation last week of CNN Financial News prexy Lou Dobbs could well shift the balance of power of the entire financial news field.
Not only was Dobbs CNN's lead anchor for its financial news coverage, the 19-year Turner vet was also chief of cable web CNNfn and a top CNN exec, with 350 staffers reporting to him.
Money maker
Most importantly, Dobbs was arguably CNN's biggest single profit center.
Because of Dobbs' ability to draw an audience with a high concentration of corporate CEOs and other wealthy viewers, advertisers pay a relative fortune to buy spots on the "Moneyline NewsHour With Lou Dobbs" (see chart).
