Philadelphia's Ben Franklin presents recommendations

The emerging biotechnology industry may never fulfill its potential unless cash-starved biotech firms are permitted to sell tax credits and unless other hurdles to financing their growth are removed.

So says a recently released report that offers more than a dozen recommendations outlining what should be done to grow the state's biotechnology industry.

"Pennsylvania has a healthy component of startup and fledgling biotech firms, in addition to adolescent firms on the verge of commercial success and profitability," the report states. "The commonwealth's challenge is to link public and private resources across the state in order to nurture the …
