Apr. 30 -- WASHINGTON -- Four months after undertaking the largest-ever meat recall by one of its Michigan plants, Sara Lee Corp. has hired a top federal regulator to lead its effort to ensure that its hot dogs, deli meats and other packaged foods are safe.
Critics called this week's hiring of Ann Marie McNamara, a top scientist for the U.S. Department of Agriculture who continues to investigate the company's Dec. 22 recall, a conflict of interest and proof of the so-called revolving-door relationship between the USDA and the companies it regulates.
