So gun control is bad, but it's okay if kids shoot each other?

Let's face it _ love is blind.

Especially the love some people have for guns.

I'm not talking about a lot of gun owners. Most are sensible people who use guns for protection, hunting or target practice.

But there are many gun extremists out there who even now _ after the tragedy at Columbine High School in Colorado _ insist no laws should be enacted to control children's access to guns.

If student slaughters in Littleton, Colo., and elsewhere have taught us one thing, it's that a few sensible gun controls wouldn't hurt.

Like: raising the purchase age to 21, closing loopholes where children can buy guns on the Internet and holding adults criminally responsible if they leave a gun out and a child uses it to harm others.

None of those proposals could in any way infringe on legitimate use of guns …
