Pepco is turning up the heat in Annapolis.
District-based Potomac Electric Power Co. is contacting its 15,000 Maryland shareholders by mail and telephone, asking them to urge lawmakers to pass utility deregulation legislation.
The company is organizing letter-writing campaigns and visits to lawmakers' offices, and top company executives also are visiting key lawmakers.
Pepco and Maryland's five other electric utilities are blanketing Annapolis as the General Assembly considers bills to open Maryland's electricity market and determine parameters of competition. Lawmakers hope to complete work before the session ends in April.
