Bradenton health provider signs deal with Food Lion.(Healthcare America)

Healthcare America, a multispecialty group practice in a new Bradenton "medical mall," has contracted to provide health care services directly to some 1,000 Food Lion employees, including Kash n' Karry employees, plus 22 dependents.

The contract, in essence, produces savings by cutting out any middleman health insurance or HMO company.

Food Lion, which is self-insured, has about two dozen similar deals around the country. But, said Healthcare America CEO Dr. John Mucasey, the pact is the largest direct health care coverage deal in the Sarasota-Manatee area and perhaps the first of its kind in the region.
