AT least four overseas corporates are in the race for entering into a design and manufacturing tie-up with Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) for implementing the mechanical and the electro-mechanical portion of the Rs. 7,000-crore Tala hydel project, which is being jointly set up by India and Bhutan.
Tala is reckoned as a logical extension (a downstream project) of the Chukha hydel project and the 1,020 MW hydel power generated by the Tala project would be shared by the two countries.
