Businesswoman says her motels are unique

Faith and doing what she likes led Barbara Rodocker to wear many different business hats.

The mother of four children has been a general contractor, Michigan's first federal housing appraiser and, now, proprietor of two local motels.

But Rodocker wants more than just owning Silver Surf Motel in Bradenton Beach and Silver Sands Motel in Longboat Key, so she is negotiating to buy one or two more motels in the area.

"I'm always amazed that people think of me as a success - I don't look at it that way," Rodocker said. "I figure this is what I wanted to do, and I did it."
