Speech technology vendor Lernout & Hauspie (L&H) is launching a volume licensing program for its shrink-wrapped goods, including the Voice Express product line and its Power Translator Pro translation products.

Although speech technology as a desktop application is barely a blip on the radar screens of most major corporations right now, several companies are in the process of converting older interactive voice- recognition customer service programs from touch-tone operation to voice activation, L&H officials said. Companies currently making such conversions include Sears, American Express, FedEx, Schwab, E*Trade, and others.
