Mobile device vendors in the second quarter will ship handhelds suited for a workforce that may not always handle systems with care.

Itronix in May will ship a ruggedized Windows CE handheld device, the T5200, that is completely sealed, works in extreme temperatures, and stays dry when rained on at the rate of 4 inches per hour.

As more companies find uses for handhelds in remote locations, the idea of a ruggedized system has a great deal of appeal.
