Houston companies attracted a record $7.4 billion on 43 deals in the fourth quarter of 1998, nearly double the $3.7 raised in 59 deals during the same period of 1997, according to an analysis by Charles P. Young Co.
Four Houston-area initial public offerings raised $4.3 billion during the fourth quarter, five times last year's fourth-quarter amount of $702 million, and more than nine times 1998's third-quarter amount.
