Children's closing in-patient division

New Children's Hospital has notified state officials that it will lay off some of its 164 employees when it closes its in-patient hospital next month.

"The hospital informed the Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation of the impending mass layoff as part of a federal law requiring public disclosure of termination of 50 or more employees. The layoffs are effective March 13, according to state documents.

"The exact number has not been determined," said Agnes Nicholas, the hospital's director of development and public relations. "Individual notices have not been delivered to employees."
