Sculptors face felony charges over toxic dust.(Bennett Sculpture Inc.)

The owners and general manager of Bennett Sculpture Inc. will be arraigned on Monday in El Dorado County Superior Court on eight felony charges of mishandling hazardous waste at their former foundry in Shingle Springs.

Sculptors Tom and Bob Bennett, along with Walter Kearfott, general manager, are accused of improperly disposing copper dust produced by grinding and sanding bronze sculptures.

"This is the biggest crock of bull I've ever heard of," Kearfott said.

"This appears to be a case of regulatory overkill," said James Brunello, attorney for Bennett Sculpture. "Our experts tell us there is no public health or environmental danger and feel the total amount …
