HOLLYWOOD Landmark Theatre Corp., the nation's largest specialized circuit, will make its first foray into New York City in a joint venture with Gotham-based multimedia entertainment company Sunshine Amalgamedia.
The companies have joined forces to convert the Sunshine Theatre, a former Yiddish vaudeville house on the Lower East Side, into a state-of-the-art five-screen arthouse. Redubbed the Sunshine Cinema, the complex is skedded to open next summer.
The development continues the rapid pace of theater building in New York, long one of the nation's most underscreened major markets.
