AutoNation wants stake in gasoline biz.

Republic Industries wants to hook car buyers for life, and isn't above offering cheaper gasoline and money-back service guarantees to do it.

Starting Dec. 26, Denver will turn into an auto industry laboratory stretched across 17 "stores" that once were part of the Chesrown, Emich and John Elway dealerships.

Republic bought the dealerships last year and has banded them together under John Elway AutoNation USA, gaining control of one-third of the metro area's new and used car retail market.

One goal is to sell about 38,000 vehicles next year and grow market share 5 percent to 10 percent, said senior vice president Fred Emich III and vice president Todd Maul, who comes from the Chesrown side.
