FORT COLLINS - What was conceived as a decorative girl for favored clients could result in $1 million boost to revenue this year for Fiberlok, a Larimer County-based specialty printing company.
A self-described rug nut, Fiberlok CEO Brown Abrams decided to use the unique equipment within his factory to fashion miniature Persian rugs into distinctive mouse pads.
Abrams started giving the product away to friends and fellow airline passengers and the resulting buzz created a demand he couldn't ignore. The roaring success of the MouseRug is helping Fiberlok shrug off a drop in exports to Asia.
"This was a joke," said Abrams, who spent four years in the fine rug business before founding Fiberlok: "I mean, mouse pads are something you get for free. Who would buy a mouse pad? But believe me, people can't buy enough of these."
