INTRODUCTION
A telecommunications project provided authentic experiences for elementary students and prospective teachers. The project. Clovis Crawfish-Alive, Not Fried, used the model of character impersonation to allow students to communicate via e-mail with Clovis Crawfish, the main character in a children's literature series. Teaching interns provided classroom support for the project, thus gaining experience in a collaborative model of instruction. They immediately saw the effects of the model on learning and on student behavior and later incorporated other collaborative models into their practice.
