Enbrel OK sparks lease at Virginia Mason center

Immunex Corp. has leased new lab space under construction in Seattle's First Hill area to accommodate growth while its own campus on the waterfront is built.

After receiving Food and Drug Administration approval last month for its Enbrel arthritis drug, the Seattle-based biotechnology company leased the 24,000-square-foot top floor of the Virginia Mason Research Center at Ninth Avenue and Seneca Street.

"Immunex is growing and until our new center at Terminal 88 is available we need additional laboratory space," said Doug Williams, Immunex senior vice president for discovery research.
