Erie County Medical Center is attempting to win back the contract to provide health care to state inmates - business it lost to a Pennsylvania managed-care company last year.
ECMC expects to bid for the job with the state Department of Correctional Services when it issues a request for proposal for health services for 14,500 prisoners at 13 facilities west of Rochester. The RFP will be issued by year-end with the contract commencing April 1, 1999, said department spokesman Michael Houston.
The state is contracting health care for the prisoners through individual providers until a new agreement is made, Houston said.
