Cheskin shifts plea to guilty

Athletic footwear consultant Melvyn Cheskin pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court here last Friday to charges of conspiracy and attempting to traffic in counterfeit goods. Cheskin, who changed his plea from not guilty to guilty, was arrested in July in a sting operation conducted by the FBI and security officials at Reebok International Ltd., Canton, Mass., for allegedly plottinag to steal Reebok's spring 1988 footwear designs.

U.S. Attorney Victor Wild recommended that Cheskin be sentenced to one year in prison, serving the first 30 days and the balance being suspended to two years' probation. Cheskin had faced a maximum …
