Merger, Vaira propel Fox Rothschild

Fox, Rothschild, O'Brien & Frankel, the 17th largest law firm in the Philadelphia area, decided last week to acquire a mid-sized Center City law firm, and also announced that Peter F. Vaira, a former U.S. attorney for eastern Pennsylvania, has become a partner in the firm.

The partners at Fox Rothschild voted on Sept. 18 to acquire Melzter & Schiffrin, a 16-member firm that does business-related law. The move will take effect on Jan. 2.

Vaira served as U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania from 1978 to 1983 and joined Fox Rothschild in early September as a partner in its litigation department. …
