Belying the passive library stereo-type, Brenda Crotts, technical services librarian at Butte County Library in Oroville, California, shows what high achievement can mean for an active professional.

* Crotts has run in over 40 marathons, never failing to finish the 26.2-mile course in a respectable time, as well as in countless shorter races. In the county's annual "chase race," she has yet to be caught by a police officer or firefighter.
