If your home hasn't been burglarized yet, consider yourself lucky--there's a burglary every 10 seconds in the Inited States. And in two out of three burglaries, thieves enter the home without force. So how do they get into almost six million homes each year? Most simply open a door or a window. Some find a key under a doormat, in the mailbox, or some other "safe" hiding place--and use it.

No one is 100 percent safe from burglary. But there are steps you can take to prevent it. We're not saying that you should live in fear, or that you should turn your home into an armed fortress. But you do have to be cautious--and aware that unfortunately we live in a world ...
