With its next issue (Winter 1997), Humane Health Care International will cease publication after almost 13 years. The journal was founded (then called Humane Medicine) to encourage an open dialogue between physicians, nurses, and other health-care professionals and the wider concerned community, particularly patients and their families. We will use the final issue as a Celebration. Why a "celebration" you ask and not anger, grief, or resentment? As at a wake, we wish to celebrate the life lived (by our journal) and to give thanks for the opportunity to test our vision of open dialogue. As well as can be done in 60 journal pages, we will review the past 12 issues and recall some of the best papers that appeared in Humane Medicine and Humane Health Care International. Finally, we will publish farewell memoranda from our contributors, past and present, ...
