["Khatib defends electoral commission's independence, neutrality"]

Amman, 2 September - Head of the Independent Elections Commission IEC Abd-al-Ilah Khatib on Sunday [2 September] vowed he would not compromise his commission's independence and neutrality and warned of attempts to "thrust it into any controversies or bickering."

"Neutrality and independence are the essence of the commission's existence," he told Petra staff, calling for all to cooperate with the IEC as a constitutional national institution for the success of its mandate.
