Siem Reap, Cambodia, 29 August: Japan, China and South Korea on Wednesday [29 August] expressed support for an ASEAN [Association of Southeast Asian Nations]-initiated free trade area in the region.

The economic ministers from ASEAN's member countries and its three partners said after a meeting in the Cambodian resort Siem Reap that the free trade area, called the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership [RCEP], "would significantly contribute to deepening economic integration," according to a joint statement on the so-called ASEAN-plus-three meeting.
