MALAYSIA'S interest in achieving test status for cricket by 2020 is great news to 69-year-old former national and state player Winston De Souza.

De Souza was a force to be reckoned with during the heyday of Malaysian cricket in the 1960s to the late 1970s. His passion for the sport, known as the "gentleman's game", knows no bounds.

The popularity of sports such as football, hockey and badminton in the 1980s overshadowed cricket in Malaysia, but fortunately, the interest was re-ignited in the 1990s.
