Once the most artless and casual of footwear options, the old-fashioned thong has spawned a new generation of sturdier and more fashionable choices, and customers can explore the diversity at the new Flip Flop Shops location at Coronado Center mall.

"Flip-flops have come a really long way from 20 years ago," said Robbie Bova, who owns and operates the Albuquerque franchise of the company.

Flip Flop Shops' newly remodeled, 540-square-foot mall space -- located near Sears -- carries a wide selection of styles for men and women. There are even some children's sandals. The inventory, which covers the shop's back wall and hangs from a "tree" rack, includes brands like OluKai, Sanuk, Cushe, Reef, Scott Hawaii, Roxy, Rainbow, Flojos, Cobian and Quicksilver. …
