An intra-party rift has emerged within the Voice of the People Party (HAS Party) after the party's chairman, Numan Kurtulmus, met Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Thursday over a possible merger of the two parties.

HAS Party Deputy Chairman Mehmet Bekaroglu, who said on his Twitter account on Thursday that Kurtulmus is making a mistake, held a press conference on Friday during which he continued his criticism of Kurtulmus's move.
