New car sales in the UK continued to rise last month, the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) has reported.

The organisation announced on Thursday that new car registrations rose for a fourth successive month, with a 3.5% year-on-year increase in June to 189,514 units.

This followed a 7.9% rise in sales in May, which was the biggest increase since the end of the scrappage incentive scheme in June 2010.
