Revenues up, expenditure and fiscal deficit down

Amidst all the bad news, the Governmentas finances have shown some signs of improvement.

During the first two months of the current financial year, total revenue is higher than the corresponding period last year, while total expenditure and the fiscal deficit are lower.

According to a Finance Ministry official, refunds have reduced, which has benefitted total revenues. At the same time, closer monitoring has resulted in lower expenditure and a resultant lower fiscal deficit.

The good news is that the reduction in crude oil prices may bring reduction in fuel subsidy.
