Ministry gets tough after PM notes delays in sealing fuel pacts

The Coal Ministry is talking tough with Coal India. The Ministry has asked the coal PSU to tweak the contentious penalty clause in the latest fuel supply agreements (FSA) with power developers.

The Ministry's tough stand comes after the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, in a review meeting last week, took note of the delays in the signing of new fuel supply pacts. After several debates and discussions, Coal India is understood to have agreed to tweak the penalty clause.

According to the zero moratorium clause in the latest FSA, no penalty will be levied …
