June 12--PANAMA CITY BEACH -- An Alabama woman remained in critical condition after a near-drowning Sunday night, and several others were pulled out of the water Monday, officials said. Recent turbulent weather has strengthened the rip currents along Bay County beaches, PCBPD Chief Drew Whitman said. The dangerous conditions are expected to persist for several more days, forecasters said. Red flags were flying Sunday when 42-year-old Sonia Westmoreland was pulled from the water, and the surf advisory was upgraded to double-red flags Monday afternoon, meaning the water was closed to swimmers.
