These days when you look at headlines two urgent issues dominate the global agenda: the situation in Syria and the deepening economic crisis in Europe. In both cases a sense of gloom and doom has become the norm.

On both fronts, there is need for urgent action. Yet, nothing is happening. What explains such inaction? Necessity is the mother of all changes, and usually radical change comes when you hit rock bottom.
