CELL C ACCOUNT Red flag ignored? Did agencies pitching for the Cell C advertising account suggest early on that the pitch should be postponed until after incoming CEO Alan Knott-Craig took up his post on April 1? Shortly after taking charge, Knott-Craig cancelled the appointment of Cape Town agencies KingJames and FoxP2 and returned the account to Ogilvy Johannesburg, which had managed it since 2009.

After naming KingJames and FoxP2 as winners in February, Cell C changed its mind before contracts were signed, so says it is not obliged to honour its original decision. Both agencies are talking to the mobile telephony company about compensation. …
