Outraged hospital bosses have told union chiefs that going on strike and then blaring out the theme to Star Wars from loudspeakers close to an intensive care ward was insensitive and "doesn't help" their cause.

Organisers of the GMB union staged the stunt at the Great Western Hospital in Swindon, when more than 100 cleaners, porters and maintenance staff walked out in the latest one-day strike in their dispute with PFI employers Carillion.
